Box Score LEXINGTON, VA – Christopher Newport's women's lacrosse squad had its two-game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon, dropping a 13-6 decision at No. 12 Washington & Lee.
The Generals scored the first two goals of the game before Kylene Jennings cut the lead in half with 15:38 left in the opening half.
W&L scored two straight and Meghan Harkey cut the lead to 4-2 but the Generals found the back of the net with seven seconds left in the first half to lead 5-2 at the break.
The second half was full of scoring as the two teams combined for 12 goals. Washington & Lee out-scored CNU, 8-4.
The Generals led 12-2 with 9:41 left and the Captains scored four straight to cut the lead to six, W&L scored with one second left on the clock for the final margin.
Kaitlin Quigley led CNU with two goals. Jennings, Katie Doherty, Brooke Falcke, and Harkey each scored once for the Captains. Harkey and Natalie Gilbert both finished with one assist.
Washington & Lee out-shot Christopher Newport, 28-23. Gayle Robinson had six saves in goal for CNU.
The Captains fall to 2-2 overall while W&L improves to 3-0. Christopher Newport returns to action Sunday, March 16, when they host USA South rival Shenandoah at 1 pm.
