NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's softball team handed third-ranked Lynchburg its first two losses of the season Tuesday.

The Captains swept the Hornets in dramatic fashion at Captains Park.

In the opener, Christopher Newport grabbed an early 3-0 lead before the Hornets surged ahead with four runs in the fifth inning. Three of those runs were unearned due to two CNU errors. The Captains then tied the game with a solo home run off the bat of Katie Moyers in the bottom of the fifth.

In the second game, the Hornets took an early 2-0 lead, and had a 3-1 lead going to the bottom of the sixth. Christopher Newport bounced back scoring twice in the sixth thanks to a two-run single from Rene Ashworth.

The Captains took game two with a walk-off, two-run home run off the bat of Megan Morris. It was the sixth home run of the season for Morris.

Katie Bruce took the loss in both games for Lynchburg and is now 7-2 on the season.
