Box Score 3 FERRUM, VA – Christopher Newport's softball squad finished 2-1 on day two of the Ferrum Tournament Sunday.
CNU picked up its game against NC Wesleyan when it was halted because of rain on Saturday. The Captains went on to win that one, 11-3.
Sarah Tipton picked up the win, improving to 1-0 on the year.
Margit Severin finished 1-for-3 with a three-run home run. Megan Morris went 1-for-1 with a home run and two walks. Renee Ashworth and Kristen Nickloy each finished 1-for-2 with a home run.
The Captains lone loss came to Roanoke, 9-8.
Severin finished 4-for-5 with a double and another three-run homer. Ashworth finished 2-for-4, Mary Kennedy went 2-for-4 and Katie Moyers finished 1-for-3 with a home run.
Kristen Rowe took the loss.
In the final game of the tournament, Christopher Newport rolled past Meredith, 17-7.
Jessie Atkinson went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run. Nickloy finished 2-for-2 and Katie Moyers went 2-for-3.
Kristen Bruce took the win.
CNU is now 11-4-1 overall. The Captains return to action Tuesday when they host Lynchburg with first pitch set for 3 pm.
