SALEM, VA – Christopher Newport's softball squad defeated Hunter and was leading NC Wesleyan when the game was halted due to weather on day one of the Ferrum Tournament Saturday.

CNU defeated Hunter, 9-1, in five innings. Lindsay Kelly went the distance to pick up her second win of the year.

Ashley Walker, Jessie Atkinson and Megan Morris all hit home runs. Morris' home run was a three-run shot that ended the game in the fifth.

The Captains led 3-0 in the bottom of the first in a non-conference game against NC Wesleyan. Margit Severin hit a three-run home run to put Christopher Newport on top. Sarah Tipton was on the hill for CNU.

The game will be picked up where it was halted Sunday at 9 am.

The Captains are now 9-3-1 on the year and will resume play on day two of the Ferrum Tournament Sunday.
