Box Score 2 Baseball Sweeps A Pair Of Games Over Castleton St.
NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's baseball squad put 31 runs on the board and easily swept a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Captains Park, beating Castleton State (VT) in non-conference action.
Both games of the doubleheader were seven innings in duration.
CNU jumped to an early lead in the opener, and never looked back. The Captains coasted to a 16-4 win. Chris Despins, the USA South Player of the Week this week, smacked a three-run home run in the third inning...his fourth of the season. Brandon Berry pitched five scoreless innings to post the win.
In the nightcap, Christopher Newport broke open a 3-3 tie with six runs in the fourth inning, thanks in large part to a three-run double off the bat of Trae Bailey. CNU then posted five more runs in the fifth and cruised to a 15-3 win. Despins and Eric Cole both had three hits in four at bats and Bryce Morrison picked up the victory.
The Captains are now 12-4 on the season and head to Winchester to play Shenandoah in USA South play Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. Castleton St. falls to 0-7 on the year.
