Softball Sweeps Salisbury

SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's softball squad swept a pair of games Wednesday over Salisbury for the first time since the 1995 season.

It's the first time CNU has swept the Sea Gulls at Salisbury since 1994.

The Captains won game one, 5-4.

Christopher Newport came right out and scored three runs in the top of the first before Salisbury responded with one in the bottom of the first and three more in the bottom of the second, to lead, 4-3.

CNU pushed across the tying and game-winning runs in the top of the fifth.

Megan Morris homered to lead off the fifth and finished 1-for-3. Kristen Nickloy finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Margit Severin went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Lindsay Kelly tossed 4 1/3 innings in relief, allowed two hits and struck out one to pick up the win. Kristen Rowe pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.

In game two, the Captains won 6-4.

Katie Moyers provided the offensive boost, going 4-for-4 with a three-run home run and five RBI. Taylor Morgan finished 2-for-4.

Kristen Bruce picked up her fourth win of the year, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, walked none and struck out four.

The Sea Gulls fall to 7-5 overall while Christopher Newport improves to 8-2. The Captains return to action Friday when they head to Greensboro for a USA South doubleheader beginning at 2 pm.
