NORFOLK, VA – Christopher Newport's men's tennis squad dropped its season opener 7-0 Sunday at Division I Old Dominion.

In singles play, Eidy Igarashi defeated Eddie Glidewell (CNUM) 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1; Tobias Fanselow defeated Jacob Briag (CNUM) 6-0, 6-3; Matt Fawcett defeated John Mook (CNUM) 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3; Alex Funkhouser defeated Lorenzo Sison (CNUM) 6-2, 7-5; Timo Gehrke defeated Ricky Connor (CNUM) 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 and Matt King defeated Dusty Nelson (CNUM) 6-2, 4-6, 10-3.

In doubles competition, Dan Couzens and Funkhouser defeated Mook and Glidewell (NUM) 8-6; Fawcett and Gehrke defeated Jacob Braig and Sison (CNUM) 8-1 at No. 2 and King and King defeated Connor and Nelson (CNUM) 8-5.

The Captains fall to 0-1 on the year while ODU improves to 7-3. CNU returns to action next Sunday when they host Washington & Lee beginning at 11 am.
