Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's baseball team scored 16 runs on 14 hits in a 16-2 rout of Ramapo Friday afternoon at Captains Park.
 
CNU scored once in the first and second innings before pouring it on with nine in the bottom the fourth and four more in the fifth. The Captains would add a single run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Mike Giarrizzi led CNU going 4-for-4 with three runs and a run driven in. Trae Bailey was 2-for-3 with four RBI and Eric Cole finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Ryan McDougal went 2-for-3 and Zach Hutchison finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
 
Kyle Baumann made his first start since recovering from an injury that cut short his 2007 season. He went five innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five. David Acosta and Chris Malvagna each threw a scoreless inning where both struck out a pair.
 
Ramapo falls to 0-1 on the year while Christopher Newport improves to 6-2. CNU returns to action Saturday when they host NC Wesleyan at 11 am to kick off USA South play.
