NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's basketball squad trailed by 10 at halftime and came from behind to defeat the Panthers of Ferrum College Saturday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

Trailing 43-33 at the break, the Captains began the second half on a 16-6 run to tie the score with 15:14 to go on Chelsie Schweers' lay-up. The Panthers quickly re-gained the lead on the next possession and then both teams went scoreless for the next three minutes.

FC took control and extended its lead to nine with 8:52 left in the game. CNU began to chip away at the lead and tie it at 64-64 with 6:26 left. On the next Ferrum possession, Tonya Wright's shot was blocked by Kelly White and rebounded by the Panthers who then promptly turned the ball over and Schweers was fouled. She made the next six free throws to seal the win for Christopher Newport.

The Panthers dominated the first half, leading by as many as 15 points.

Ferrum finished the game 29-of-71 (41%) from the field, 7-of-22 (32%) from behind the arc and 9-of-9 from the free throw line. Miranda Carrasco paced FC with 18 points. Wright finished with 15 points, Kierra Parker added 14, and Brittney Bullock had 12.
