NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's basketball squad overcame some poor shooting and held off a pesky Ferrum squad for a 71-64 win Saturday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

The Panthers trimmed the lead down to four with 10:24 left in the game before CNU would answer and extend its lead back to 11 with 9:08 to play.
Ferrum would trim the lead to one with 2:19 left before some solid CNU defense and the Captains hitting their free throws sealed the game.
FC finished 24-of-56 (43%) from the field, 3-of-11 (27%) from long range and 13-of-17 (77%) from the line. Derek Mitchell led the Panthers with 21 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. Jerrell Wade added 17 points and Jon Godsey had 14.
