Rollins Scores 1,000th Point, Womens Basketball Rolls Past NC Wesleyan, 81-55

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport women's basketball player Colandra Rollins became the 22nd player in program history to record 1,000 points as she led her squad to an 81-55 win over NC Wesleyan Tuesday night.

 

Rollins needed just six points entering the game and she hit the milestone with 13:47 left in the first half to put the Captains ahead, 20-10.

 

Christopher Newport cruised from there, leading by as many as 18 in the opening stanza while taking a 40-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.

 

The Captains lead by as many as 28 several times in the second half.

 

For the game, the Bishops finished 18-of-61 (30%) from the field, 4-of-15 (27%) from behind the arc and 15-of-24 (63%) from the free throw line. Essence Chambers led NC Wesleyan with 16 points and five assists. Nicole Williams finished with 11 ponts.

 

CNU shot 27-of-55 (49%) from the floor for the game, 6-of-14 (43%) from long range, and 21-of-28 (75%) from the charity stripe. Rollins finished with 22 points and 11 boards. Chelsie Schweers had 18 points and seven rebounds while Jessica Moore contributed 13 points and nine rebounds. Kelly White had 10 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.

 

NC Wesleyan falls to 7-13 overall and 4-10 in the USA South. CNU improves to 16-4 on the year and 11-2 in conference play. They are now winners of six straight games.

 

Christopher Newport returns to action Saturday as they host Ferrum with tip-off set for 2 pm.
