Volleyball Sweeps Averett, Captures USA South Title

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's volleyball team swept Averett to capture the USA South Tournament Saturday night at the Freeman Center.
 
With the win, the Captains earn the USA South's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. It's the sixth time CNU has won the tournament title in the past eight seasons.
 
With the win, Christopher Newport also sets a new school record for wins in a season with 33.
 
The Captains won by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-13.
 
Ellen Koch led CNU with 10 kills, 13 digs and three block assists. Meghan Puckli finished with nine kills and three block assists as Allie Wolfe, who was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player, had nine kills, 16 digs, and four total blocks.
 
Mary Horner finished with 15 digs, Jessie Heavenrich had 20 assists, three aces and six digs. Ryan Lowery added 15 assists and four digs.
 
Wolfe was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Liz Bush, Koch and Heavenrich.
 
Averett finishes the year 17-20. CNU is now 33-6. Christopher Newport will find out who, where and when they will play in the NCAA Tournament Monday morning when the pairings are released.
