Men's Soccer Shuts Out Emory, 2-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's soccer team shut out fourth-ranked Emory 2-0 in a Sweet 16 Men's Soccer NCAA Tournament match Saturday evening.
The Captains struck first on Bryan Davis' shot from about 35 yards out that went passed the diving Emory keeper in the 34th minute.
CNU added an insurance goal in the 75th minute when Nao Masuda beat the Eagles keeper after Winston Mattheisen split two defenders on his pass to Masuda.
The Eagles out-shot the Captains, 14-10. Emory dominated most of the second half by finishing with nine shots. CNU keeper Justin Wolfe, making just his third start all year, stopped a season-best eight shots. Emory's Jonathon Laycock finished with two saves.
Emory concludes the year 16-2-1. Christopher Newport improves to 17-4-3 and will meet Messiah in the sectional final Sunday at 3 pm.
