Football Falls To Washington & Jefferson, 35-29

WASHINGTON, PA – The Captains of Christopher Newport saw their season come to a close Saturday afternoon, losing at Washington & Jefferson in the NCAA Playoffs, 35-29.
 
The loss snapped a school-record eight-game winning streak for the Captains and ended CNU's season at 8-2.
 
Tunde Ogun, the Captains offensive powerhouse, rushed for 160 yards and three touchdowns.
 
W&J senior running back Curt Jones rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Washington & Jefferson scored three second quarter passing touchdowns to build a 28-10 lead. Senior quarterback Bobby Swallow connected on three scoring throws in the second quarter to put the Presidents up by 18.
 
LeShae McMillan picked off a Swallow pass in the final minutes of the first half and returned it 19 yards for a CNU touchdown to cut the lead to 28-17 at the half.
 
After an early W&J score in the third quarter, the Captains defense rallied and held the Presidents to less than 100 yards in the second half. Two late Ogun touchdowns pulled the Captains within six, 35-29. A well executed on-sides kick attempt by Jay Graham bounced into the hands of a Washington & Jefferson player to thwart the Captains comeback.
 
Washington & Jefferson improves to 10-1 on the year, and will travel to Millsaps next Saturday in Jackson, MS. The Captains season ends at 8-2, their best winning percentage in football history.
