Box Score CHAMBERSBURG, PA – Christopher Newport's field hockey squad shut out Frostburg St. 4-0 in the championship game of the Independent Team Tournament Sunday afternoon.
Four different players scored for the Captains.
Katelyn Yandle scored the eventual game-winner in the 25
th minute with
Taylor Harrell assisting.
Anne Gehring scored on a penalty corner in the 33
rd minute to give CNU a 2-0 lead at the half.
Christopher Newport scored two more in the second half. Harrell scored on a penalty corner in the 52
nd minute and
Haylie Black scored the fourth goal of the game in the 54
th minute for the final margin.
The Captains out-shot the Bobcats, 16-5.
Emma Stout played the first half, faced one shot and made no stops.
Brittany Bradsher played the second half, faced four shots and made three saves.
Christopher Newport improves to 13-5 overall on the year. The Captains will find out next Sunday if they received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament that begins Wednesday, Nov. 12.
