Men's Soccer Powers Past Averett, 7-1

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's soccer squad finished its weekend USA South homes-stand in style with a 7-1 win over Averett Saturday night.

 

CNU came roaring out of the gates to start the half as they scored five times in the first 30 minutes. Averett recorded its only goal of the game in the 33rd minute.

 

The Captains scored two more times in the second half for the final margin.

 

Winston Matthiesen led the way for Christopher Newport with two goals. Brian Lybert added a goal and two assists. Andrew Carver finished with one goal and one helper. Bryan Davis, Nao Masuda, and Nathan Roberts each one goal in the win.

 

Brian Tweed, Kenny Huttman and Steven Farmer all finished with one assist.

 

CNU out-shot the Cougars, 21-4. Matt Tengs played the first half and made one save. Justin Wolfe saw action in the second half and was not called upon to make a stop.

 

Averett falls to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the USA South. Christopher Newport improves to 9-3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

 

The Captains hit the road Wednesday as they travel to Shenandoah with kick-off set for 4 pm.
