ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – Christopher Newport's men's soccer team took down the Seahawks of St. Mary's College of Maryland on Wednesday afternoon. The final score in the non-conference match-up was 3-2.
CNU got off to a quick start as
Kyle Allan launched a shot into the top left corner at 2:26 after receiving a short pass from
Brian Tweed. St. Mary's held off the Captains for the remainder of the first half and the teams entered halftime with CNU leading 1-0.
The Captains went up 2-0 in the second half at 52:58 when
Jimmy Hash knocked the ball in on a low-angle shot which bounced around the left post before finding its way into the net.
SMC would add two goals in the final 15 minutes of the game, but the Captains were able to hang on and pull out the win.
CNU out-shot the Seahawks, 22-6, posted a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, and improved their overall record to 13-3-2 on the year.
The Captains will next travel to Rocky Mount, NC on Saturday, November 1st to take on North Carolina Wesleyan in their final conference match-up of the regular season.
