NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's soccer team played to a double-overtime tie with the Seagulls of Salisbury University on Wednesday night at Captains Field.
After a quiet first 30 minutes of the contest, CNU got on the board in the 31st minute as Clif Kipper put the Captains up 1-0 on a pass from David Haas.
The Captains would take the 1-0 lead into the half as well as an 8-0 shot advantage.
The Seagulls would only manage one shot in regulation, and in came in the second half, when in the 54th minute, Ben DeLisle evened the score at one off of a pass from Scott Sparrow.
The two teams would end regulation with the score knotted at 1, and would complete the first overtime period with the same score.
In the final overtime period, both teams made strong offensive pushes, but neither got a shot off as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Christopher Newport out-shot SU, 18-2 on the night, and are now 11-3-2 for the season. The Sea Gulls are now 10-3-2.
The Captains will be back out at Captains Field this Saturday night at 7:00pm when they take on USA South rival Greensboro
