FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport's men's soccer squad won its fourth straight match Saturday by shutting out USA South rival Methodist 2-0 Saturday.
Clif Kipper's goal off a corner kick in the 70th minute proved to be the only goal the Captains would need. Winston Mattheisen added an insurance goal in the 87th minute when he dribble past a Monarch defender and shot it past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.
Christopher Newport out-shot Methodist, 23-6. Matt Tengs picked up his third shutout in goal by making four stops.
MU falls to 7-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. CNU improves to 11-3-1 on the year and 4-0 in the USA South. Christopher Newport returns to action Wednesday when they host Salisbury at 7 pm.
