ST. LOUIS, MO – Christopher Newport's volleyball squad swept a pair of matches on day one of the Washington (MO) University Tournament Friday evening.
The Captains, ranked 23rd in the nation, started the evening off by defeating Baldwin-Wallace, 3-1. CNU won by scores of 25-21, 25-10, 21-25 and 25-19.
Ellen Koch led Christopher Newport with 15 kills and six digs. Liz Bush finished with 10 kills. Allie Wolfe contributed nine kills and 15 digs.
Mary Horner had a match-high 19 digs. Ryann Lowery finished with 32 assists and nine digs and Jessie Heavenrich contributed 13 assists and 15 digs.
CNU rounded out the day by sweeping Endicott. The Captains won by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 26-24.
Koch led the way again, finishing with nine kills and eight digs. Bush added eight kills and Horner had 12 digs. Heavenrich totaled 22 assists, five aces and five digs.
Christopher Newport is 19-4 on the year. CNU returns to action Saturday for day two of the tournament. The Captains will square off against fourth-ranked Washington at 11 am eastern and conclude the tournament by taking on Williams (MA) at 1:15 pm.
