Field Hockey Slips Past Mary Washington, 2-1, In Double Overtime

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Christopher Newport's field hockey squad picked up a well-earned victory Wednesday defeating Mary Washington on the road, 2-1, in double overtime.

 

The Eagles Kristen Haynor put her team on top first just over five minutes into the game off of a penalty corner.

 

The Captains Haylie Black knotted the score at 1-1 with 9:28 left in the opening half off a feed from Nicole Kuykendall.

 

Kim Tomlin registered the game-winner with just three seconds left in double overtime off a pass from Courtney Russ.

 

CNU out-shot UMW, 18-17. Emma Stout had 12 saves in the cage for Christopher Newport.

 

Mary Washington falls to 5-4 while the Captains improve to 7-3. CNU returns to action Saturday when they hit the road to take on Eastern Mennonite at 2 pm.
