White Records Triple-Double, Womens Basketball Upends NC Wesleyan, 64-53

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Christopher Newport women's basketball player Kelly White recorded a triple-double while helping her squad to a 64-53 win over USA South rival NC Wesleyan Tuesday night.

 

White becomes the first CNU women's player to record a triple-double since Tomorrow Lofton did it back on cFebruary 14, 2004 when she finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds and 14 assists.

 

It was a very low scoring game right from the start as NC Wesleyan stole the ball from Chelsie Schweers at the end of the half to take the lead, 29-28.

 

The Bishops were in the game by virtue of 17 first half turnovers by the Captains which led to 16 NC Wesleyan points.

 

Christopher Newport out-scored NC Wesleyan in the second half by 12 and limited the Bishops to just 20% shooting, 8% on three-point attempts and 46% from the free throw line.

 

For the game, NC Wesleyan was 22-of-77 (29%) from the field, 2-of-18 (11%) from long range and 7-of-18 (39%) from the line.

 

Essence Chambers led the Bishops with 13 points and seven rebounds.

 

CNU was 23-of-55 (42%) from the floor, 0-of-3 from behind the arc and 18-of-28 (64%) from the charity stripe.

 

Kelly White led Christopher Newport with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 11 blocks. Schweers led all scorers with 16 points, she also grabbed six boards. Colandra Rollins added 14 points and 13 rebounds and Jessica Moore contributed eight points and 12 rebounds.

 

NC Wesleyan is now 4-7 overall and 1-4 in the USA South. The Captains are now 10-2 on the year and 5-0 in conference play.

 

CNU returns to action Saturday when they travel to Ferrum with tip-off set for 2 pm.
