No. 13 Field Hockey Rolls Past Gettysburg, 4-0

GETTYSBURG, PA - Christopher Newport's field hockey team rolled to its third straight win Saturday by shutting out Gettysburg, 4-0.

The Captains scored three goals in the first eight minutes of play to take an early 3-0 lead.

Stephanie Baird scored CNU's first goal just 3:33 into the game on a penalty corner. Diana Golden increased the Captains lead to 2-0 on a break-away in the seventh minute with Ashley Traylor assisting. The final goal of the goal of the half was scored by Traylor 7:32 into the half unassisted. She corralled a turnover and drilled one home for the score.

Rhiannon Thomasson scored her first goal of the year in the 49th minute from 10-yards out with Brittney Touchard assisting.

Christopher Newport out-shot Gettysburg, 10-5. Emma Stout recorded her second shutout of the year and made three saves.

The Captains are now 3-1 on the year and return to action Wednesday as they travel to Randolph-Macon with start time set for 4 pm.
