Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport's field hockey team, ranked 13th in the nation, scored the game-winner in the 55th minute to top No. 6 Salisbury 2-1 for the second straight time Wednesday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Ashley Cybulski put the Captains on the board in the 41st minute off a feed from Stephanie Bair.
The Sea Gulls wasted no time in tying the score less than minute later on Danielle Twilley's second score of the year with Michelle Rowe assisting.
Haylie Black scored the game-winner, her third of the year, in the 55th minute unassisted to put Christopher Newport ahead.
CNU out-shot Salisbury, 15-9. Emma Stout had five saves in goal for the Captains.
Christopher Newport improves to 2-1 on the year. The Captains hit the road this Saturday as they travel to Gettysburg with start time set for 1 pm.
