LYNCHBURG, VA - Christopher Newport's field hockey team won its eighth straight Saturday by shutting out Lynchburg 2-0.

Diana Golden scored what would prove to be the game-winner just 5:08 into the game with Ashley Traylor assisting.

Haylie Black added an insurance goal in the second half unassisted to put the Captains ahead by the final margin.

CNU out-shot the Hornets, 20-9. Elexa Nosonchuck had four saves in net for her fourth straight shutout. For the Captains, it was the sixth consecutive shutout and seventh of the year.

Christopher Newport improves to 8-1 on the year. The Captains return to action Wednesday, Oct. 3 as they host Mary Washington with start time set for 4:30 pm.
