Box Score WINCHESTER, VA – Christopher Newport's field hockey team won its sixth straight Sunday afternoon by shutting out Shenandoah 6-0.
The Captains led at the half by a score of 1-0 on Ashley Traylor's goal off a pass from Haylie Black with 1:22 left in the half.
CNU erupted for five second half goals as five difference players scored. Black, Ashley Hay, Lindsay Rawley, Natalie Gilbert and Andrea Gray all scored one goal each in the second half.
Brittney Touchard, Kim Tomlin and Jacque Mayer each had one assist in the win.
The Captains out-shot the Hornets 17-1. Elexa Nosonchuk (49:34) and Zuri Pryor-Graves (20:26) each split time in goal. Neither was called upon to make a save.
Christopher Newport is now 6-1 and returns to action Wednesday as they host cross-water rival VA Wesleyan at 4 pm.
