SALISBURY, NC - Christopher Newport's field hockey team finished its season opening two-game road trip on a positive note by shutting out Division II Catawba 3-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Captains scored two first half goals, with the eventual game-winner coming off the stick of Haylie Black unassisted in the 8th minute. Ashley Traylor scored her second goal of the year in the 20th minute with Stephanie Bair assisting.

Black scored her second goal of the game again unassisted in the 42nd minute.

CNU out-shot the Indians, 22-5. Emma Stout had one save in goal.

Christopher Newport improves to 1-1 on the year and returns to action Wednesday as they host Salisbury with start time set for 4:30 pm.
