Box Score ASHLAND, VA - Christopher Newport's field hockey team, ranked ninth in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association top 25 poll, rolled to a 7-0 win at Randolph-Macon Wednesday afternoon.
The Captains scored three times in the first half and added four more in the second stanza.
Haylie Black scored the game's eventual winner just 3:40 into the start of the game with Stephanie Bair assisting. Ashley Traylor scored the next two goals. Black assisted on the first and Taylor Harrell assisted on the second score.
In the second half, Kim Tomlin with Diana Golden assisting and Black scored her second with Tomlin assisting. Brittney Touchard and Natalie Gilbert scored the final two goals in the game, both coming unassisted.
The Captains out-shot the Yellow Jackets, 20-3. Emma Stout played the first half and made three saves. Zuri Pryor-Graves played the second half and made no saves.
Christopher Newport improves to 4-1 on the year. The Captains return to action Sunday as they host Catholic with start time set for 1 pm.
