BALTIMORE, MD - Christopher Newport's women's soccer team opened 2007 on a positive note by shutting out Guilford on day one of the Johns Hopkins Tournament Saturday afternoon.
The Captains scored twice in the first half, with the eventual game-winner coming just 4:44 into the game as Jenn Campbell found the back of a free kick from Jackie Hurley.
Amanda Peters put CNU up 2-0 with a score in the 18th minute with Sam Ciaravino assisting. Jenn Campbell scored her second goal of the game in the 46th minute unassisted.
Christopher Newport out-shot the Quakers, 17-12. Dineen Sampson got the start in goal and made six saves.
The Captains return to action Sunday as they take on Johns Hopkins at 3:30 pm.
