Field Hockey Closes Regular Season With 4-1 Win Over Frostburg St.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's field hockey team closed the 2007 regular season with a 4-1 win over Frostburg St. on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.

 

The Captains allowed the Bobcats to score first as Kelly Filipowicz found the back of the cage in the 16th minute unassisted.

 

From there, it was all CNU as they responded with four straight scores. In the 26th minute, Rhiannon Thomasson tied the score at 1-1 with Kim Tomlin assisting.

 

In the second half, the Captains scored three more times with Tomlin collecting the game-winner in the 51st minute off a feed from Haylie Black.

 

Diana Golden recorded her 10th goal of the year in the 54th minute off a feed from Black. The final score came in the 58th minute when Thomasson scored her second goal of the game, this one unassisted.

 

CNU out-shot Frostburg St., 17-8. Elexa Nosonchuk won her 12th of the year making five saves.

 

Frostburg is now 11-6 and the Captains improve to 16-2, the most wins in program history. CNU will await a bid into the NCAA Tournament. The pairings are released late Sunday night. Check the CNU athletics website for more details.
