ROCKY MOUNT, NC – Christopher Newport's men's soccer season came to a close with a 1-0 loss to Methodist in the semifinals of the USA South Tournament Friday afternoon.
The Monarchs Evan Monteiro scored the game's only goal in the 44th minute with Mike Demara assisting.
The Captains had several chances in the final few minutes, including a corner kick with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation. CNU's attempt to score in the final seconds smacked off the cross-bar and was cleared away by Methodist as time expired.
Christopher Newport out-shot the Monarchs, 11-7. CNU's Matt Tengs had two saves in net.
The Monarchs improve to 13-6-1 and will meet the winner of the NC Wesleyan/Greensboro match in Saturday's championship. The Captains conclude 2007 with a record of 11-7.
