Box Score SALISBURY, MD – Christopher Newport's field hockey squad, ranked #6 in the nation, saw its season come to an end in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament 2-1 in overtime to #14 Springfield Saturday afternoon.
The Captains Ashley Cybulski tipped in a Diana Golden shot to put CNU on top in the 16th minute with an unassisted goal.
Springfield's Jane Kelleher knotted the score at 1-1 in the 46th minute off a feed from Emily Murray.
The Pride's Allie Eisele scored the game-winner 3:02 into the extra session to propel them into the Elite 8 against home-standing Salisbury.
Springfield out-shot the Captains, 12-9. Elexa Nosonchuk had six saves in goal for Christopher Newport.
CNU concludes the year 16-3. Springfield improves to 21-3.
