Kylie Cale scored the game-winner for the Captains.

No. 6 Field Hockey Upends No. 9 Johns Hopkins, 3-1

BALTIMORE, MD – Christopher Newport's field hockey team, ranked No. 6, defeated No. 9 Johns Hopkins 3-1 Monday afternoon.

 

The win was the Captains 11th in a row and it also snapped CNU's consecutive shutout streak at eight.

 

Ashley Hay scored the first goal for the Captains in the 25th minute on a tip-in off a shot from Taylor Harrell. The Blue Jays evened the score at 1-1 just over a minute later on Megan McGuire's goal with Adair Landy assisting.

 

The game-winner came less than five minutes before the half Kylie Cale found the back of the cage. Cale tipped in Stephanie Bair's long shot.

 

Ashley Traylor added an insurance goal just 36 seconds into the second half when she blasted home a shot from the top of the circle. Kelly Jo Broadhurst had the assist.

 

Christopher Newport out-shot Johns Hopkins, 15-8. Elexa Nosonchuck had four saves in goal for the Captains.

 

CNU is now 11-1 on the year and returns to action Tuesday as they travel to Westminster, MD to take on McDaniel with start time set for 3:30 pm.
