NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's soccer squad won its third straight match by shutting out USA South rival Shenandoah 6-0 Wednesday night.
The Captains scored just one goal in the first half when Kenny Huttman found Shawn Trueblood who headed the ball in the back of the net in the 44th minute.
CNU erupted for five goals in the second half, starting with Trueblood's second score unassisted just 51 seconds into the half.
Michael Caro scored his 13th and 14th goals of the year and Brian Tweed and Andrew Carver each scored once for Christopher Newport.
Huttman finished with two assists and Tweed had one.
The Captains out-shot the Hornets, 23-2. Matt Tengs recorded one save in net in just under 79 minutes of action. Tommy Vieten completed the game and made no saves.
CNU improves to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the USA South. Shenandoah falls to 2-11 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
Christopher Newport returns to action Saturday as they host Methodist with kick-off set for 7 pm.
