Field Hockey Captures Program Best Ninth Win In A Row, Shuts Out Mary Washington 2-0

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's field hockey team, ranked sixth in the nation, set a new program record with its ninth straight win by shutting out Mary Washington 2-0 Wednesday evening.

The Captains scored twice in the first half. Ashley Traylor scored the game-winner less than sixth minutes into the game unassisted. Haylie Black scored an insurance goal with Diana Golden assisting in the 14th minute.

Christopher Newport out-shot the Eagles, 10-2. Elexa Nosonchuk notched her fifth straight shutout and the team's seventh consecutive and eighth of the year, also a new program record.

Mary Washington falls to 6-7 on the year while the Captains improve to 9-1. CNU returns to action Saturday when they host St. Mary's (MD) at 2 pm.
