NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's men's soccer team, ranked 10th in the South, scored a late goal to hold off the region's number eight team, Roanoke, 1-0 Wednesday night at Captains Field.
Michael Caro scored his 15 goal of the year when Kyle Allan split two defenders and played the ball between the two Roanoke defenders to Caro who dribbled past the Maroon's keeper for the game's only goal. Caro scored the game-winner in the 84th minute.
The Captains out-shot Roanoke, 12-4. Matt Tengs recorded his third shutout of the year while making two saves.
CNU improves to 9-4 overall while the Maroons fall to 8-5. The Captains hit the road Saturday as they travel to Greensboro with kick-off set for 1 pm.
