KINGSMILL CUP
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team captured a top-five finish at the Kingsmill Cup hosted by the College of William & Mary this weekend. In a fleet of 10 teams, the Captains finished fifth with 91 points.
CNU was led by a dominant performance in A division with 24 points and a second place finish.
Griffin Donahoe sailed with
Jacob Fleming for six of the eight completed races while also pairing with
Corine Glickstein for one rotation. Donahoe delivered back-to-back bullets to start the weekend with Fleming and added a runner-up finish in the final race. The A division boat finished out of the top five only once in eight total races.
In B division sailing, the Captains recorded 67 total points behind
Brandon Heckman as skipper. He sailed with Alexander Kagy for the first six races before seeing Glickstein step in during the final rotation. Glickstein and Heckman posted the best finish of the weekend for the B division boat with a sixth-place showing in race number seven.
As a team, the Captains finished with 91 points and edged out Washington College for fifth place by four points. Virginia Tech won the event with 41 total points.
CHESAPEAKE INVITATIONAL
ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Captains finished out the Chesapeake Invitational with a sixth place finish at the event hosted by Navy.
The event was sailed in three divisions and Christopher Newport featured six sailors in the event. In the A division boat it was
Berend Van der Meer and Hannah Louise Roethel for 128 points and a 16th place finish. The B division boat scored 131 points and took 17th place with
Jon Matney and
Braden Silveria sailing for the Captains. Finally, in C division it was
Charles Willmarth and
Gavin Hamilton in 18th place with 139 points.
The Captains sailing program will return to action next weekend at the Jefferson Cup hosted by the University of Virginia.
