CNU Sailing Finishes 17th at the Open Atlantic Coast Tournament Finals

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Christopher Newport sailing team traveled to Connecticut College this weekend for the Open Atlantic Coast Tournament Finals and finished with a 17th place effort. The Captains scored 315 points with 153 points in A division and 162 points in B division sailing.

On Saturday, the wind did not cooperate for competition until the afternoon when seven races were completed in both divisions. On Sunday, only three more races were completed before the decision was made to wrap the event with 10 total races in both divisions.

Sunday featured the best finish for the Captains with back-to-back 14th place finishes by the A division boat. That performance, steered by Berend van der Meer and crewed by Hannah Louise Roethel, was enough to edge out Webb Institute for 16th in A division by three points.

The B division boat featured Jon Matney and Corine Glickstein as the Captains raced to 162 points. The duo finished with three 15th-place efforts in the last five races.

The Christopher Newport fall schedule will conclude on October 31-November 1 at the War Memorial in Annapolis, Md.
