SALISBURY, Md. --
The 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will square off against No. 6 Denison in the third round of the NCAA Tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 15-6 on the season, while Denison is 19-1.

Tickets for Saturday's contest are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $3 for children and college students. They can be purchased through SUSeaGulls.com or at the stadium beginning one hour prior to the game.

Additionally, for those fans unable to attend the contest, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at NCAA.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Along with Christopher Newport's showdown with Denison, No. 3 Salisbury will host No. 9 York (Pa.) in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. The advancing teams will then battle in the Regional Finals on Sunday at 1 p.m.

This year marks the third time that CNU has advanced to the Round of 16 in program history. Previously, the 2013 and 2024 squads both reached the same point in the tournament. However, the 2026 team is the first to accomplish the feat by winning a pair of games in the postseason. In 2013, the Captains won an opening round game in a field of 32 programs, while the 2024 squad received a first-round bye before knocking off Catholic in the Round of 32.

Last weekend, Christopher Newport kicked off the postseason with a 17-6 victory over Meredith before taking down No. 11 Washington and Lee, 8-7, during an overtime thriller on Sunday. Leading the way, Brookelyn Morrison was named the IWLCA National Offensive Player of the Week for her work in the two games. The senior All-American had 13 total points in the contests, including nine against the Avenging Angels. That marked the highest total in an NCAA Tournament game in school history.

Meanwhile, during the battle with the Generals, Morrison assisted on three of the game's final four goals, including the overtime clincher by Brooklynn Peterson. Those efforts helped flip a 7-4 fourth-quarter deficit into one of the most memorable victories in program lore.

With her tally, Peterson became the first player in school history to score an overtime goal in the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, including regular season games, she became only the third freshman to score an overtime game-winner. In that club, she joined CNU Hall of Famer Meaghan Galvin, who accomplished the feat against Frostburg State on March 29, 2014, and longtime legend Kelly Lane, who did it against St. Mary's (Md.) on May 5, 2010.

Along with last week's offensive stars, Christopher Newport put on a defensive clinic. The six goals allowed against Meredith equaled the fewest surrendered by CNU in an NCAA Tournament game in program history. Meanwhile, the seven goals scored by Washington and Lee marked the fewest by a nationally-ranked opponent since No. 16 Chicago mustered six on March 15, 2023.

On an individual level, Hadley Chadwick posted 19 saves, including 12 against the Generals. That equaled her career-high. Sam Murphy also forced a team-high four turnovers during the two games, while Morrison, Kate Lamendola, and Gabby Saia had three strips apiece.

Aided by her work over the weekend, Morrison inched closer to several career milestones. The senior enters Saturday with 164 ground balls, which is tied for the most in school history. Monica Evans also secured 164 rollers from 2010-13. Additionally, Morrison has appeared in 82 career games. That is also tied for the most in school history, matching the legendary careers of Kendall Gibson (2019-23) and Kelsey Winters (2020-24).

Among other approaching milestones, Chadwick has 492 career saves. She is just eight away from joining former standout Kaitlyn Ready as the only Captains to reach 500. The senior goalie has also seen 4,296 minutes of action during her tenure. That is the most among all active goalkeepers in the country and the eighth-most in Division III history. She is just 76 minutes away from climbing all the way past former Franklin & Marshall star Lidia Sanza for a spot in the all-time top-five.

Saturday's tilt will serve as a rematch from a regular season showdown that took place on March 28 in Granville, Ohio. During that contest, Denison picked up a 16-7 victory on the squad's home turf. After slipping out to a slim 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Big Red scored nine straight goals over the next 25 minutes to put the game out-of-reach.

During the match-up, Elena Sorkin scored five goals for the Captains, while Chadwick pocketed eight saves, including six in the first half. On the other side, Julianne Henigan and Kaylyn Kirrane combined for 19 stops for the victors, while Bridget Sheehy, Madison Goldstein, Finlay Harmon, and Addie Clift all netted hat-tricks.

Denison boasts a well-rounded team, which ranks third nationally in save percentage (.527) and sixth in scoring offense (16.70 goals-per-game). On an individual level, Henigan is fourth in the country with a .527 save percentage and 15th with a 6.91 goals-against-average. Meanwhile, MK Barnhart has 48 assists, which is the 23rd-most in the NCAA.

Including its victory over CNU in March, Denison has won 16 straight games, which stands as the third-longest active streak in the country. The Big Red extended that run with a 20-7 win over Carthage in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday. Clift and Harmon both had five points in that tilt, while Henigan made three saves.
