SALISBURY, Md. --
The 21st-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will compete for the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Captains battle No. 3 Salisbury at Sea Gull Stadium.

Entering the title bout, CNU sits at 13-5 on the season, including 4-4 on the road. Meanwhile, Salisbury is 16-0 with a 7-0 mark at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at SUSeaGulls.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport and Salisbury will face each other in the title bout for the sixth consecutive season. Overall, the Captains have made 16 total appearances in the league championship since the program was founded in 2001. That includes a run of eight straight USA South crowns from 2006-13.

CNU locked up its spot in the championship with a 17-11 win over Mary Washington during a semifinal clash at Jennings Family Stadium on Wednesday evening. After the Eagles slipped out to a slim 4-3 lead early in the second stanza, the Captains scored seven straight goals to grab a commanding lead on the way to the victory.

Making some history during the game, Brookelyn Morrison matched her career high with nine points after collecting six goals and three assists. Her nine points equaled the second-highest total in a postseason game in school history. Only CNU Hall of Famer Wendy Wilson eclipsed that total after she notched 11 points in the program's very first playoff game during the USA South semifinals against Ferrum on April 21, 2001.

Remarkably, Morrison's eruption came almost exactly one year to the day after she had an identical nine-point explosion against Mary Washington in the league tournament on April 30, 2025.

Along with her offensive efforts, Morrison also pocketed five draw controls during the game, which bumped her season total to 102. That is the third-most by a Captain in program history and just four shy of tying Sam Wettengel's school standard of 106 set in 2021.

Equally impressive on Wednesday, CNU came away with 21 caused turnovers on the defensive end, which was the sixth-highest total in program history and the finest mark in a postseason game. On an individual level, Sam Manico and Gabby Saia had five strips apiece. That equaled the third-highest total in a playoff game by a Captain.

Among other historic performances, Hadley Chadwick hauled in six ground balls, which was also the third-most in a postseason tilt, while Sam Murphy set a new career-high with eight draws. Only four Captains ever eclipsed that total in a playoff game.

In addition to Morrison, five other players had multiple points against Mary Washington. Headlining that group, Kate Webb handed out six assists, which fell just one shy of matching former legend Kelsey Winters' playoff record. Winters had seven helpers against the same Mary Washington program in the league playoffs on May 3, 2023.

Benefiting from some of Webb's work, Faith O'Connor, Elena Sorkin, and Elle Roberts all notched hat-tricks against the Eagles. Sorkin's eruption was her 14th consecutive multi-goal game. That now stands as the longest streak in school history, topping 13-game runs by O'Connor, Ashton Marshall, and Syd Guidi.

O'Connor now sits just two goals away from reaching 100 for her career, while Sorkin is four shy of the century mark. Among other approaching milestones, Morrison is four ground balls away from tying Monica Evans for the most in school history. Evans snagged 164 rollers from 2010-13.

The top seed in the conference tournament, Salisbury comes into the weekend as one of only two undefeated teams in Division III. The squad has also won 12 straight games at Sea Gull Stadium, which stands as the fourth-longest active home winning streak in the NCAA.

So far this season, Salisbury sits second in the nation in clearing percentage (.920) and fifth in free-position percentage (.595). The Sea Gulls also sit in the top-30 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The squad is averaging 15.00 goals per game while surrendering just 7.25 goals per contest.

On an individual level, Paige Ellis is 22nd nationally with a 7.45 goals-against-average, while Abby Fleishell has a team-high 25 caused turnovers and 40 ground balls. On the other side of the field, Audrey Harrington leads the Sea Gulls with 68 points, and Miranda Mears has 46 goals.

Saturday's game will be a rematch of a regular season showdown that took place just last week at Sea Gull Stadium. During that contest, Salisbury picked up a 15-9 win, although the Captains chipped their deficit down to two on multiple occasions in the third quarter. O'Connor led CNU with three points, including two goals, while Grace Doyle had four tallies for SU.
