ATLANTA, Ga. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's team dropped a 4-3 decision to 29th-ranked Sewanee to open up a three-match trip to Atlanta this weekend. The Captains will also face Johns Hopkins and Emory while in Georgia.
Christopher Newport captured a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles but surrendered the doubles point with 7-6 losses at both No. 1 and No. 3.
Lindsey Bergelin and
Samantha Robertson earned the win for the Captains against Emma Foster and Lucy Lee at No. 2.
In singles action, CNU got wins at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6 before the Tigers clinched the win at No. 1.
Kendal Chang defeated Harper High (6-3, 6-0) at No. 2 for the Captains;
Eva Taylor took down Emma Foster (6-4, 6-2) at No. 4, and; Bergelin wrapped up a two-win day with a victory against Natalie Pumpelly (6-3, 6-1) at No. 6.
The 38th-ranked Captains fell to 6-9 overall on the season with the loss while Sewanee improved to 9-6.
