RALEIGH, N.C. --
Wrapping up a four-game road swing, the 22nd-ranked Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will travel to Meredith for a non-conference showdown at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Meredith College Athletic Complex.

Entering the weekend, CNU sits at 9-4 on the season, including 3-3 on the road. Meanwhile, Meredith is 10-3 with a 5-1 record at home.

For those fans unable to attend the game, live stats and a video stream of the action will be available at GoAvengingAngels.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a hard-fought 14-12 setback at No. 15 Rowan last Saturday. Against the Profs, Elena Sorkin erupted for seven goals, which established a new career-high and equaled the fifth-most by any Captain in program history. It also matched the most scored against a nationally-ranked opponent in school lore.

Aided by her work against Rowan, Sorkin bumped her season output to 52 goals this spring. That total ranks eighth on the current NCAA charts and places her 16th on the program's all-time scoring list. Meanwhile, her 4.00 goals-per-game average is tied for the finest rate in school history, matching the performance of CNU Hall of Famer Kaitlin Quigley during the 2010 campaign.

Along with Sorkin, Faith O'Connor ranks 45th on the national leaderboard with 42 goals this year. Meanwhile, as a team, Christopher Newport sits 12th in the country in scoring offense with a 16.15 goals-per-game average. The squad is also seventh in free-position percentage (.606) and 21st in shooting percentage (.496).

Putting the program's efficiency into context, Christopher Newport is one of only seven programs in the NCAA with an offense that ranks in the top-25 nationally in both free-position percentage and shooting percentage.

Just as effective in other facets of the game, CNU also sits 11th in the country in draw controls per game (15.77), 17th in clearing percentage (.869), and 20th in takeaways per contest (13.62). Helping the squad control possession, senior All-American Brookelyn Morrison ranks 14th in the nation with 82 draw controls. That also equals the seventh-highest total in school history.

Along with her work this spring, Morrison also sits second on the program's all-time charts with 323 career draw controls. She is just three shy of matching Meaghan Galvin's school standard of 326, which the CNU Hall of Famer set from 2014-17.

Among other approaching milestones, Morrison is just two points away from reaching 200 for her career, while Sorkin and O'Connor are both four shy of hitting the century mark. Additionally, on the defensive end, Hadley Chadwick is just one ground ball away from her 100th career roller. She would join former standout Kaitlyn Ready as the only goalies to reach that benchmark.

Meredith also enters Saturday with one of the country's most prolific offenses. The Avenging Angels are fourth nationally in scoring offense (17.46 goals per game) and ninth in shooting percentage (.521). On an individual level, Reese Walker is third in the NCAA with 83 points, 12th with 36 assists, and 25th with 47 goals.

Along with Walker, Kenzie Todd has registered 57 goals, which stands as the second-highest total in the NCAA. She is also seventh nationally with 77 points. Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Delaney Posehn boasts a 6.72 goals-against-average, which is the 16th-best rate in the country.

In seven previous meetings between the two programs, Christopher Newport holds a 6-1 edge in the all-time series. The squads last met in 2024 when CNU notched a 20-3 win in Newport News. During that contest, Morrison, Page Henry, and Drew Stanley all had two points for the Captains, while Emily Snyder and Jacqueline Thomas both notched their first career goal. It also featured a memorable match-up between Carys May and her older sister, Arrianna, who had a pair of goals for Meredith.

After concluding the road trip on Saturday, CNU will return home on April 15 for a brief two-game homestand beginning with a 7 p.m. showdown against Randolph-Macon.
