ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Christopher Newport women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision in Orlando on Tuesday night against No. 20 Gustavus Adolphus (8-3). The Captains fall to 2-4 on the season with the setback.
Picking up the lone win of the match for CNU was rookie
Emma Carver at No. 5 singles. Carver took down Ella De Young in a 6-3, 6-4 straight-set victory.
Gustavus won the doubles point with wins at one and three with the match at two unfinished. Carver played with
Kendal Chang against Molly Austin and Lanie Davis and held a 4-3 lead when the match was called due to the Gusties clinching the team point.
In singles, junior
Kylie Schaefer stretched the first set to a seventh game before falling to Kaya De Bruijn at No. 2, 7-5, 6-2.
Samantha Robertson was edged out by Austin at No. 3 in a third-set tiebreaker. Robertson won the first set, 6-2, before falling by a tight margin in the second set, 7-5. In the tiebreaker, Robertson scored six points but fell to her Gusties counterpart by a final score of 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6).
Christopher Newport will return to action on Thursday, March 5 at 11:30 am against Kenyon College.
