NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Earning his first career Player of the Week certificate from the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference, graduate student
Barrett Foster was named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Foster helped lift the 23rd-ranked Captains to a hard-fought victory against 34th-ranked N.C. Wesleyan University on Sunday afternoon.
Foster is the first CNU men's tennis player to earn Player of the Week honors in 2025-26. He twice earned ODAC Player of the Week honors as a senior member of the Hampden-Sydney Tigers last year. After transferring to CNU for his final season in 2025-26, Foster has started 11 of the 12 matches this Spring and is among the team leaders in victories.
Against the Battling Bishops, Foster picked up two pivotal victories for the Captains including the clinching point in singles action. First, he paired with senior
Vincent Truong to earn a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Farhaan Patrawala and Albert Sitwell. The victory helped CNU secure the all-important doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over the Bishops.
In singles action, the visitors battled back to a 3-3 tie with Foster on the court at No. 4 against Ben Russell. After staving off Russell in the first set tiebreaker, Foster finished out a 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, 7-5 win to send the CNU roster into a celebratory frenzy.
The win over the nationally-ranked foe snapped a three-match skid overall this season and ended a nine-match losing streak to the Battling Bishops dating back to the 2017 season.
The Captains will be back in action on Saturday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to face Mary Washington.
