NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman third baseman
Logan Adams was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week after helping lead the Captains to a 3-1 performance last week. Adams hit .467 (7-15) with three multi-hit performances during the week.
Adams represents the fourth CNU selection to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week this season.
Jackson Baird earned the billing twice and
Cooper Newell was also selected once this season.
The rookie from Chesapeake, Va. extended his hitting streak to seven games with four multi-hit performances in the stretch. During last week's games, Adams drove in eight runs and scored six times while smacking four extra-base hits.
In a mid-week matchup against Coast Guard, Adams ended the game with a three-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was his second home run of the game as the game-winning blast capped a career-best effort with 5 RBI and two runs scored. Taking on Wittenberg in a three-game series, Adams stayed hot by going 5-for-11 with 3 RBI and four runs scored and two doubles. He added a pair of walks and one HBP as his on-base percentage for the week rose to .625.
Additionally, Adams kept up his strong play defensively as he took part in a pair of double plays while collecting two putouts and eight assists in ten total chances at third base.
For the season, Adams is hitting .333 with six extra-base hits including three homers and three doubles. He has driven in 14 runs and ranks second on the team in runs scored with 18.
The Captains are ranked No. 20 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll in week four with a 13-5 overall record. The first regular season rankings of the season were released by the ABCA with Christopher Newport checking in at No. 21 on March 17.
CNU will return to the diamond on Saturday, March 21 against No. 25 Randolph-Macon (9-4). The Captains will host the Yellow Jackets at 2:00 p.m.
