NABC Names Toa Hollenbeck All-District as Captains Travel to Fort Wayne for National Quarterfinals

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Junior Toa Hollenbeck received another honor on Tuesday, as the Christopher Newport University standout was named second team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The All-District honors are voted on by NABC member coaches across Division III.

The Chesapeake, Va., product receives his second accolade in as many days after being named second team All-Region Monday by D3hoops.com. Hollenbeck leads the Captains in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game and tops the team with 57 three-pointers. He was a first team All-Conference selection in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference for the third straight season , and was named the league's Player of the Week four times.

Hollenbeck became the 35th player in the 58-year history of CNU men's basketball to go over 1,000 career points on January 2nd in a CNU victory over Rowan in the Stockton Classic in Galloway, N.J. He has now scored 1,295 career points in 88 games as a Captain, and is 18th on the school's all-time scoring list.

Hollenbeck, a Grassfield High School grad, scored a career-high 43 points in a home victory over Mary Washington on February 4th, an effort that is tied for third for most points ever scored by a CNU player in a single game. He receives his first All-District award one day after being voted All-Region for the first time. 

Christopher Newport is traveling to Fort Wayne, Indiana, for the National Quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. CNU will play the University of St. Thomas (Texas) on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Christopher Newport has a record of 24-5 and advanced to the quarterfinals on Friday night with an exciting 59-57 victory at Randolph-Macon College in the Sweet 16 in Ashland, Va.. The Captains will be making their fourth Elite Eight appearance in the last five years Thursday in Fort Wayne, and will be playing the Celts of St. Thomas for the first time ever. UST has a record of 29-1 and is ranked third in the country and riding a 26-game winning streak.

The winner of Thursday's game will advance to play in the National Semifinals on Saturday in Fort Wayne against the winner of Thursday's match up between Emory University and Illinois Wesleyan University.
