NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will face its second top-25 test of the year when the Captains host No. 23 Haverford at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Jennings Family Stadium.
Entering the midweek matinee, CNU sits at 4-1 on the season, including 4-0 at home. Meanwhile, Haverford boasts an identical 4-1 record with a 2-1 mark on the road.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 17-10 victory against Lynchburg on Saturday. During the contest,
Gabby Saia collected seven caused turnovers, which equaled the fourth-highest total in program history.
Brookelyn Morrison also added a game-high 12 draw controls. That matched the eighth-most by a Captain.
In addition to the single-game stars,
Sam Murphy and
Faith O'Connor extended a pair of historic streaks on Saturday. On the defensive end, Murphy posted three takeaways, which marked her fifth consecutive outing with multiple caused turnovers. That matched former legend Julia Golden for the longest single-season stretch by a Captain in school history. Golden had at least two strips in five straight games from February 27 - March 16, 2019.
On the attack, O'Connor collected her fifth consecutive hat-trick after dropping in four goals against Lynchburg. She joined CNU Hall of Famer Ashton Marshall (2013) and longtime standout Erin Callahan (2014) as the only Captains to open a season with five straight hat-tricks.
Along with O'Connor,
Kate Webb established a new career-high with seven points, including four assists, while
Elena Sorkin also landed four strikes for the victors. Meanwhile, Morrison and
Annabella Burke chipped in with two assists apiece.
Approaching her own historic milestone, Morrison has converted nine consecutive free-position attempts dating back to last season. That is currently the longest active streak in the entire NCAA. It also stands as the fourth-best run in program history. CNU Hall of Famer Meaghan Galvin and All-Region phenom Catie Chess both sank 11 straight eight-meter shots for the Captains, while Elaine Kirby drilled 10 straight during her award-winning career from 2002-05.
Dominating in all facets of the game, the Captains rank ninth in the NCAA in both scoring offense (18.00 goals-per-game) and takeaways-per-contest (15.80). On an individual level, Morrison is 14th nationally with a 7.80 draws-per-game rate, while O'Connor is 24th with 19 total goals.
Haverford also sits among the national-leaders in a variety of categories. Coming into Wednesday's clash, the Fords are sixth in the NCAA in assists-per-game (9.80), 28th in save percentage (.544), and 31st in clearing percentage (.869). Daniela Martini also ranks 11th on the individual charts with 14 total assists.
After dropping a hard-fought 13-8 decision at No. 25 Scranton on February 28, Haverford has posted three straight lopsided victories over Marywood, Lebanon Valley, and Stockton. Along with Martini's work as the squad's chief facilitator, Brooke Epstein leads the Fords with 22 points, including 15 goals. Kylie McNamara has also posted 15 strikes, while Ella Salvador has compiled a 6.80 goals-against-average and .521 save percentage on the opposite end of the field.
In seven previous meetings between the two programs, Haverford holds a 5-2 edge in the series, including an 8-7 overtime victory last year. Each of the last three battles have been decided by a single goal, including a 15-14 win by the Captains in 2023 and a 9-8 triumph by the Fords in 2024.
Following Wednesday's bout, CNU will conclude its three-game homestand on Saturday with a noon showdown against Ursinus.
