SALISBURY, Md. -- The Christopher Newport cross country teams will contend for league supremacy on Saturday when the Captains take part in the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Maryland.
The meet will begin with the women's 6k at 2 p.m. One hour later, the men will head out for the 8k.

CNU will be one of five teams with representatives at the league meet. The Captains are hoping to unseat UC Santa Cruz, who has won five straight conference championships after sweeping the men's and women's titles every year since 2021. Meanwhile, Mary Washington, Regent, and Salisbury will also look to topple the Banana Slugs this weekend.
Entering the competition, three programs are currently listed in the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings. On the women's side, Christopher Newport is third in the South Region, Salisbury is third in the Mid-Atlantic, and UC Santa Cruz is seventh in the West. In the men's race, UC Santa Cruz boasts the fourth-best squad in the West, while Salisbury slots fifth in the Mid-Atlantic.
Last year, the Captains were the runner-up in the women's race and finished third in the men's competition. Since joining the conference in 2013, the men have won three titles during a dominant run from 2015-17, while the women have captured four crowns after claiming the top spot in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2019.
Boasting a veteran-laden roster, the women's team features five former All-Conference performers. Among the decorated crew, both
Sarah Dake and
Courtney Mudd have earned a pair of All-League citations. Additionally,
Lena Blagg was celebrated in 2024, while
Sarah Bland and
Kayla Lopez earned recognition for their work last fall.
Of the 14 runners expected to represent CNU in the 6k, 11 have experience at Winter Place Park. Dake threw down a team-best time of 21:59 on the course during the 2025 Don Cathcart Invitational. Bland and Lopez also have sub-23-minute clockings during the same competition.
On the men's side, Christopher Newport has three former All-Conference recipients on the roster.
Evan Young and
Clayton Rankin have been honored twice, while
Andrew Janetsky was hailed as the league's Rookie of the Year in 2024. He also garnered second-team All-Conference nods for that performance.
Similar to the women, the men will have a large group of veterans making a return trip to Salisbury. Seven of the 13 Captains entered in the 8k have run at Winter Place Park. Of those, Janetsky has the top clocking after finishing in 24:53 during the 2025 Don Cathcart Invitational. That remains the ninth-fastest 8k time in school history. Additionally, Rankin, Young, and
Kevin Farnsworth have also eclipsed the 27-minute mark on the course.
Following Saturday's meet, Christopher Newport will return to action on November 14 for the NCAA South Regional Championships at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Virginia.
