BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- As a result of weather conditions deemed unsafe to compete in, the Christopher Newport cross country programs had their Pennsylvania trip cut short as the 52nd Annual Paul Short Run was brought to a close in the early afternoon before the majority of Captains could take part in the prestigious competition at the Goodman Cross Country Course.
Following the completion of the Gold Division races, the rest of the meet was canceled due to excessive heat. That prevented CNU from taking part in the White Division races, which were slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
Although Christopher Newport was unable to take part in the team competitions, five Captains were able to complete the Open races, which were contested in the morning.
In the 8k,
Patrick Stormer paced the squad with a time of 28:49.8, which sliced over two minutes off his performance from the CNU Invitational last month. Fellow freshman
Dan Larson also netted a new personal-best after finishing in 29:37.6, which cut over 90 seconds off his previous standard.
Along with the newcomers,
Luca Hinton wrapped up his third appearance at the Paul Short Run in 28:53.2, while
Kaiden Brewer threw down a 30:21.3 mark in his second trip to the competition.
Meanwhile, on the women's side,
Isabella Phillips completed the 6k in 26:36.6. That established a new season-best for the second-year speedster.
