NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport University has posted a 9-1 record at the Freeman Center this season, and the Captains return to action on Thursday night on their home court. CNU takes on the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz with tip off time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Captains are 16-3 and have won eight straight games, and 15 of their last 16. John Krikorian's squad is presently ranked 14th in the nation, and hasn't seen action since Sunday, January 18th, when the Captains defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor at the Freeman Center, 93-88. Junior Toa Hollenbeck registered a new career high, scoring 32 points while leading the Captains to the five-point triumph over the Crusaders. Hollenbeck, who went over the 1,000-point mark for his career earlier this month, scored 21 of his 32 in the opening half as CNU opened a 46-34 lead at the intermission. The Chesapeake, Va., native knocked down all five of his three-point attempts in the first half and finished the game six-of-seven from long range. Hollenbeck passed his previous high of 30 points scored vs. John Jay in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last March. Senior Collin Hines scored 15 points, and juniors Zyir Baskerville and Tyson Henderson also reached double figures for Christopher Newport with 13 points each in the victory over MHBU. 

UC Santa Cruz enters play Thursday with a 12-7 record and the Banana Slugs have won their last six games, most recently an 82-73 victory over Stanton University Sunday in Santa Cruz, Ca. Thursday's game will be the tenth meeting of the Captains and Banana Slugs, and Christopher Newport has won eight of the first nine. CNU has won the last three games in the series, with two coming last season as the Captains won at the Freeman Center, 76-57, on February 1st...and 84-78 on February 28th in the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Tournament at Salisbury University.

Tickets for the game will be available at the Freeman Center Ticket Office prior to the action Thursday. Christopher Newport games are broadcast live on the Home of the Captains, Xtra 99.1 FM and CNUsports.com.
